Arizona Glass Alliance will host a presentation on February 13 by a very interesting and talented artist who is also a physician, Terri Grant. Terri’s work won “Best in Show” in 2015 in “American Craft Today”, and was selected for inclusion in the 2016 “New Glass Review” published by Corning.
Terri weaves stories about humanity using glass threads. As Terri describes it: “My work begins with an experience and then expands, to examine that experience from different viewpoints. In so doing, like a coin that has rolled under the sofa, what is easily seen from one viewpoint is invisible from another. I am both an artist and physician. As a physician, I gather fragments of information on a macro and microscopic scale in order to more fully understand the problem. I bring this same process to my work as an artist. I create my art through a painterly use of glass threads. Glass, like the body, forms a protective barrier that is beautiful, dangerous and fragile. It allows a porthole through which to see and be seen. As the painter Max Beckmann said, “I am seeking for the bridge which leans from the visible to the invisible through reality”.
