On Sunday evening, Arizona Glass Alliance will very proudly host a presentation by one of the true master cast glass sculptors working today, Latchezar Boyadjiev. Latchezar, who grew up in Bulgaria, was a prize student of the famed father of Czech studio glass, Stanislav Libensky. After graduating from his studies with Libensky, Latchezar moved to California, where he has lived and worked ever since. His work is in the collections of major museums around the world, including such names as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Denver Museum of Art, the De Young museum in San Francisco and the White House, and his sculpture has been exhibited in major galleries from New York to California, as well as in Canada, Austria, Germany, Holland and his native Bulgaria.
Latchezar’s works often embodies sensual female forms or the flow of natural forces, and are monochromatic, using rich color and light to elegantly describe the contours of the form in glass. To quote Latchezar “The main focus of my work is to create dynamic shapes supported by sensual lines that will gradually evolve from an idea on paper to a sculpture in glass—and combined with light it will have a powerful impact on the viewer. I want my work to become a part of modern architecture and a contemporary environment, to reflect the era in which we live.”
