Monday, October 28, 2019 7:30 PM Scottsdale Ranch Clubhouse 10585 N. 100th St. Scottsdale, AZ

On Monday evening, October 28, Arizona Glass Alliance will host a presentation by the noted glass sculptor Mark Abildgaard. In addition to his formal training Mark has been a fellow at the Creative Glass Center of America at Wheaton Village, one of the leading glass programs in the United States. Mark’s work is in the collections of several museums around the country, including Corning and the Crocker, and he is represented by several galleries around the country, including Kuivato Gallery in Sedona and Philabaum Gallery in Tucson.

Mark has long been recognized for his iconic cast glass sculptures, and describes his work this way: “I have found inspiration in looking at the artifacts from many different cultures that are able to convey a sense of mystery about mankind’s existence through time. I use images of totems and boats and figures in my work to explore ideas about the cycle of life and death. I try to create archetypical images which are not culturally specific. In working with these images I am seeking a way to combine ancient forms and my own life experiences. I want my work to maintain a connection to the past and at the same time reflect a sense of the immediacy of the moment when glass, light and color interact.”
