On Monday evening, Arizona Glass Alliance will proudly host a presentation by the very original and inventive glass artist Leana Quade. Leana received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2003 and since then she has been creating her unique sculptures as well as helping teach classes in such well known schools as Penland and Pilchuck. Over the years Leana has also worked with some of the best known glass artists, such as Flo Perkins, Dale Chihuly and Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles. Leana’s work has been exhibited around the world in such diverse locations as China and Belgium, in addition to numerous spots in the US, and has also been recognized by New Glass Review magazine. Recently Leana also received her MFA from Alfred University.
Leana describes her approach to glass as investigational, often modifying traditional techniques to create work that reflects her own individual style. To quote Leana “My goal in developing work is to inspire curiosity by revealing mystical properties of glass and mixed media by shedding light on surprising characteristics and capabilities they may have”. An image of one of Leana’s current pieces is shown below, but she has a wide range of work so to see more take a look at her website, www.quadeglass.com.
