January 25, 2016 7:30 PM Scottdale Ranch Clubhouse 10585 N. 100th St. Scottsdale, AZ
On Monday, January 25, Arizona Glass Alliance will host a presentation by the young, but well recognized glass artist, Jennifer Crescuillo, who specializes in cold working, which is the hand finishing process that turns a rough piece into finished sculpture. Jennifer has worked and taught at many well-known glass schools such as Urban Glass in New York, the Pilchuck Glass School and Corning. Together with her partner, Andrew Najarian, Jennifer operates High Polish Studio where, in addition to her own unique work, Jennifer specializes in custom cold working for other artists as well.
Jennifer describes the thrust of her creations this way:
The period of time that an object is in style is growing shorter and shorter as the demand for new and improved products grows. The change that everyday objects and technology undergo in or minds from new and useful, to old and obsolete without physically changing at all fascinates me. I want the viewer to have a connection to each object, a personal memory with it. I want the viewer to remember each object when it was new and then to see it as it is in front of them; primitive, ancient, degraded, old, useless, culturally meaningless. The objects I create are meant to serve as monuments to past technology, past culture and society, and our past relationships with that technology.
An image of one of Jennifer’s sculptures is shown below. For more information about Jennifer and to see more images of her work take a look at her website, www.jennifercrescuillo.com. You’ll find Jennifer to be a very interesting artist, and this will be a great opportunity to get to know her as a person as well.
This event will be held at our alternate venue, the Scottsdale Ranch clubhouse, which is located at 10585 N. 100th Street in Scottsdale, and will begin at 7:30 PM. The clubhouse is on the east side of 100th street, just south of Shea. Parking is available on the nearby street if the parking lot is full when you arrive.
