On Wednesday evening, March 13, Arizona Glass Alliance will very proudly host a presentation by the noted glass sculptor Jaime Guerrero.Jaime, who now hails from the Bay area, is recognized for his ability to sculpt life-size objects in glass and often deals with issues of race, identity and politics. Jaime’s early work was whimsical and focused on Latin pop culture, drawing on the Mexican wrestling culture. Later, Guerrero began to focus on ancient Mesoamerica, specifically the Olmec civilization. He is very well recognized for his archeological renderings of Mesoamerican deities. More recently Jaime has addressed more serious subjects such as human migration issues.

Jaime’s work was on the cover of Craft in America magazine in 2017, and he has received the prestigious Saxe Fellowship Award twice, in 2006 and 2012. Most recently Jaime was awarded a grant with the Pittsburgh Foundation for a year long residency at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Jaime’s work has also been featured in several TV programs, most recently a PBS Craft in America segment, and can be seen in several museums around the country.

Images of two of Jaime’s pieces are shown below, one life size figure and one Mesoamerican deity. To learn more about Jaime and see the broad range of his work please visit his website, www.guerreroglass.com.
