On Monday evening, Arizona Glass Alliance will kick off the 2017-18 season on a really high note with a presentation by the very well known and internationally recognized sculptor, Clifford Rainey. Originally from Britain, Clifford’s ground breaking sculptures in cast glass and other media reflect his wide ranging interests in Greek mythology and architecture, modern day commercial icons, the issues of globalization and the human figure. His iconic pieces of fractured Coca-Cola bottles and human figures, often including references to Greek architecture and mythology, are instantly recognizable and unique to Clifford.
Clifford’s work is represented in leading museums around the world, including such well known names as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the DeYoung Museum of San Francisco, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Boston and Montreal Museums of Fine Art. In addition to his work as a leading studio sculptor, Clifford is also one of the country’s preeminent teachers of glass sculpting techniques and currently serves as Chair of the glass program at The California College of the Arts.
