I have always been attracted to the beauty of light passing through colored glass. I love movement and texture. Bubbles please me. I am fascinated by the tremendous impact of light on glass. Light may pass through glass or be reflected. Looking closer at a piece of glass often reveals subtle depths, color combinations and interesting shadows. Many of my pieces have an iridescence to them and a lot of little textured surfaces that allow the light to bounce around. They change with the light over the course of a day and become almost glamorous in the evening. It is the varying quality of light that gives the pieces life.
The concept of kiln-fired glass is pretty straightforward. Glass is heated in a kiln until it softens and fuses together. Going beyond the basic process is where things really become interesting. The transformation of glass in the kiln can be very exciting. I am a curious person and I enjoy the surprises of working with glass.
