Trip to Habatat International Exposition & Weekend

The Habatat International is the premier gallery show of the season, with work by fifty artists from around the world, many of whom will be attending in person.  This is a great opportunity to meet literally dozens of world class artists “up close and personal”.  In addition, Habatat turns the weekend into a celebration including collection and museum visits, artist talks, an auction, dinners and parties, and much more.

  • A chance to preview the Exhibition, before the general public, with the artists in attendance
  • Attend the grand opening of the Exhibition, again with the artists in attendance
  • Presentations by several well known artists in the comfort of your hotel
  • Visit the Flint Institute of Arts to attend the grand opening of the museum’s expansion project and the Sherwin and Shirley Glass collection, plus dinner and a demo by Marc Petrovic, who is known in particular for his exquisitely realistic glass birds
  • Visit a private collection which contains, among other works, the largest Peter Bremers sculpture ever made plus spectacular installations by Martin Blank
  • Attend the Habatat auction of leading works from the secondary market
  • Visit Greenfield Village at Henry Ford to see the Bachmann Collection, including a tour by Charles Sable, the Curator of Decorative Arts at Henry Ford
  • An Arizona Glass Alliance only welcome dinner, including several artists
  • An Arizona Glass Alliance only visit to an outstanding private collection which contains many world class pieces by leading Czech and American artists
  • An Arizona Glass Alliance only closing dinner
  • Much more

Your cost of $500 per person includes:

  • Private bus transportation to all events
  • Four dinners
  • Three lunches
  • Museum entry charges
  • Payment for dinner for the artists who attend our private opening dinner, and other miscellaneous costs.

The trip will start with a welcoming, Arizona Glass Alliance only, dinner on Wednesday evening, April 25, at which we will also have several leading artists in attendance. Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 26th, 27th and 28th will be full of fun activities, culminating with our closing, Arizona Glass Alliance only, dinner on Saturday the 28th and the grand opening of the Exhibition later that evening. The bus will be leaving the hotel for dinner at 6:30 on the 25th, so you should plan your travel to arrive in time to check in and board the bus. Your departure can be anytime on Sunday, the 29th, or thereafter. Right now the airfare round trip from Phoenix to Detroit is approximately $300 so it’s a good time to buy your tickets.

The hotel at which all attendees will be staying is the Somerset Inn in Troy, Michigan (www.somersetinn.com). Several of our members have stayed there before when attending prior Internationals and they say it’s just fine. Habatat has negotiated a special rate of $160 per night, double or single occupancy. To reserve your room contact reservations at the Somerset Inn (800-228-8769) and be sure to mention the Habatat rate.

Our maximum for this trip will be 40 people. To reserve your spot please send your deposit of $250 per person by check made payable to Arizona Glass Alliance, c/o Fred Schomer, 12026 N. 118th Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85259. See you in Detroit!
